AI Generated Old Spice Spec Ad

In an era where speed, precision, and creativity increasingly converge, this spec advertisement project set out to explore the practical limits of AI-assisted video production. Every stage of the workflow — from character creation to final color grade — was handled using a curated stack of AI and professional post-production tools. The result was a cohesive, polished ad that looked as though it came from a traditional studio, yet it was built with a fraction of the time and resources.

Concept and Production Philosophy

Our goal in building an AI generated spec advertisement was simple: prove that AI tools can be integrated into a high-level creative process without compromising quality or narrative clarity. The ad needed a defined cast, a distinctive location, original music, and seamless motion — all executed under a pipeline that leveraged each platform’s strengths while keeping creative control firmly in human hands.

Step 1: AI Character Creation in Whisk Labs

Whisk Labs was the foundation of the project’s visual identity. Characters were conceived with detailed visual briefs — specific facial structures, wardrobe aesthetics, and subtle mannerisms that would carry through to motion capture. The platform’s ability to generate authentic facial features and physical characteristics consistently across compositions, ensured that these characters could be reused across multiple shots and poses without visual drift.

Because Whisk Labs also handled location generation, both people and places could be designed with an integrated style guide in mind. This kept the world cohesive — characters felt like they belonged in the spaces they inhabited, a challenge that can derail even traditional productions if handled carelessly.

Step 2: Location Generation Via Photographic Assets

Using Whisk Labs’ location generation capabilities, the production team created environments with the specificity of a film set designer and the speed of procedural rendering. Photographic assets were sourced, curated, and adapted to match the characters’ visual tone. Initial locations were created via visual reference and then refined through detailed prompting.

Rather than leaning on purely fantastical imagery, the locations were grounded in realism — natural lighting, believable architectural lines, and textural depth. These details mattered because the narrative demanded a sense of place, not just a backdrop.

Step 3: Motion Capture in Runway

Characters designed in Whisk Labs were imported into Runway for performance capture sequences. Live acting informed the characters movement through Runway’s ActTwo functionality— subtle gestures, and microexpressions made the digital characters feel human. The performers understood how the characters were meant to exist within the ad’s world, so their physical performances aligned with the previsualized intent.

This stage eliminated the stiffness that can plague AI-generated animation when motion is entirely synthetic. The capture sessions were quick, precise, and easy to iterate upon, allowing multiple takes to be reviewed and swapped without re-rigging from scratch.

Step 4: Original Music and Lyrics in Suno

Finding the right tone with the music was integral to the ad’s emotional impact. Using Suno, the team generated an original song with lyrics written to mirror the tone and pacing of the visuals.

The composition process was iterative: early instrumental tracks were aligned to the rough cut, then fine-tuned as the edit evolved. The AI-generated lyrics were refined for clarity and memorability, ensuring they worked as both standalone creative and narrative reinforcement.

Step 5: Sound Design assets with Artlist.io

Atmosphere and realism were layered in through sound effects sourced from Artlist.io. Each audio element was selected to deepen immersion without overwhelming the mix.

Step 6: Voice Over via ElevenLabs

The ad’s narrative thread came from a voice-over performance created through voice cloning in ElevenLabs. An actor provided the base recording, ensuring emotional nuance and pacing were human-led. The cloned voice allowed for perfect consistency across pickups, re-timings, and alternate script versions without requiring additional recording sessions.

This approach offered a rare combination: the authenticity of a live performance and the production flexibility of a digital voice model.

Step 7: Image Touchups in Adobe Photoshop

Although Whisk Labs output high-quality assets, still images destined for animation sequences benefited from targeted refinement in Adobe Photoshop. Adjustments included:

  • Cleaning up background distractions

  • Enhancing color contrast to match the final grading plan

  • Minor retouching on character and product features for continuity

These refinements were subtle but crucial in ensuring the animated transitions felt seamless.

Step 8: Editing and Color in DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve served as the hub for final assembly. The edit prioritized pacing — giving moments enough time to register without stalling momentum. Transitions were built to feel organic rather than mechanically timed.

Color correction unified all sources and any instances of small discrepancies into a single visual language. The grade leveraged controlled contrast, selective saturation, and subtle highlight rolls to preserve cinematic depth. These adjustments elevated the AI-generated visuals, making them nearly indistinguishable from footage captured with traditional cameras.

Audio mastering was completed in Davinci Resolve, because the ad was structured for multiple delivery formats, sound effects were mastered for clarity across both cinematic stereo and compressed social media audio. This prevented the common drop-off in quality when moving from high-end speakers to mobile playback.

Key Advantages of the AI-Integrated Workflow

This project demonstrated several tangible benefits to blending AI tools with human creative oversight:

  • Cohesion through centralized design: Having both characters and locations built in Whisk Labs meant fewer inconsistencies and faster alignment between elements.

  • Performance realism: Motion capture in Runway preserved human nuance, avoiding the “uncanny valley” that can occur in AI-only animation.

  • Custom sound identity: AI-generated music from Suno and human-curated SFX from Artlist.io combined into a rich, emotionally resonant soundscape.

  • Flexible narration: Voice cloning in ElevenLabs maintained quality while allowing fast script revisions without re-recording.

  • Polish and control: Photoshop refinements and Resolve grading added the finishing layer of professional credibility that purely automated workflows can lack.

Measured Outcomes

While this was a spec advertisement rather than a commercial release, the results were benchmarked against internal quality metrics:

  • Production speed: The full concept-to-final timeline was less than one-third of a comparable traditionally shot ad.

  • Consistency: Asset continuity between shots required minimal corrective passes.

  • Creative flexibility: The ability to rapidly regenerate characters, locations, and music tracks allowed for iterative testing of alternative narrative beats without incurring major cost.

  • Cost efficiency: The absence of physical set construction, on-location logistics, and extended studio time significantly reduced total production expenditure.

Cost Benefit Analysis

Traditional video production racks up costs fast, largely because of labor and logistics. Every department—camera crews, lighting and grip, hair and makeup, production managers—adds wages, overtime, and benefits to the bill. On top of that, coordinating multiple teams, transporting equipment, securing locations, and managing tight shooting schedules all create logistical headaches that drive costs even higher. In contrast, AI-driven production reduces or eliminates many of these moving parts. Digital environments replace location rentals, virtual characters cut down on talent and makeup needs, and cloud-based workflows streamline collaboration without massive on-site crews. You still need skilled operators to manage the tools and maintain brand consistency, but the scale of the operation is smaller, faster, and far less costly to coordinate. For all its benefits, AI generated content is not yet a panacea, full and exacting control of performance, detail, camera movement and music is not yet attainable, but for companies looking to maximize their dollar and reach- AI generated video is an extremely powerful tool. High-quality, on-brand video without the sprawling labor force and complex logistics that inflate traditional production budgets means small and medium sized businesses can compete  for customer attention with competitors that are orders of magnitude larger.

Final Thoughts: AI Generated Advertisement

This case study illustrates how AI video creation tools — when used under the guidance of an intentional, skilled production workflow — can produce results that rival traditional methods. By strategically combining Whisk Labs for character and environment creation, Runway for motion capture, Suno for original music, Artlist.io for sound effects, ElevenLabs for voice-over, Photoshop for targeted asset refinement, and DaVinci Resolve for final assembly, the project achieved both creative depth and operational efficiency.

The takeaway is not that AI replaces the craft of production — rather, it expands it. The tools accelerate execution, but it’s the human eye for narrative, pacing, and emotional resonance that transforms those raw capabilities into something memorable. In the hands of a disciplined team, this hybrid approach offers a compelling model for the future of commercial storytelling.
